Luca Guadagnino
Ahhhh…
Oh my word, I can’t describe just how much I’ve loved watching (some moments over and over again) ‘We Are Who We Are’ by Luca Guadagnino.
Initially there were some moments where I questioned why I was watching it, some of the characters drove me made and at times all of them did, but essentially that was part of it their characters. They were living lives that are real for many, that I couldn’t understand and those experiences made them who they were.
So as I watched and allowed myself to get lost in it, I wondered why I watched specific scenes over and over, what was it that kept me coming back?
The main characters are in their teens, and I know that had a lot to do with it – it took me back to a moment in my life and maybe rose a certain longing for it.
Immersed and slightly obsessed – as is my behaviour when I get into something, I wanted to find out more about the show.
The more I read, the more I learned and understood how the director approached his art. I developed an understanding of the intention in each decision, the story and the desire to create a experience in which the viewer can get lost in their world.
It seems like a simple yet totally over looked aspect, for I’m not sure how many times I’ve watched a film and appreciated the artistry in it.
The Art Of Film Making
Art is designed to move and motivate us. This production allowed elevated me out of my world and allowed me to lose myself in someone else’s – it allowed me escape and be part of of a story in which I could relate to.
I’ve learnt to look at the detail in film making and the directors approach to creating each scene, the connection to the characters and themselves.
The art of film making, it’s a beautiful thing.
